S3E25: How to Make a Buck as an Indie Author – Solo Episode

How do you make a buck as an indie author?

Today I discuss marketing methods and make hard observations (with actual numbers) about my recent experience employing some of them. I sell on Amazon via their Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) portal, I get it into stores via Draft2Digital, and I also list my books through Google Play Books, Ingram Spark (which gets it into the catalogs that libraries and bookstores order from), and a couple of others.

As a reader, which parts of this episode do you find the most interesting?

Are you an author? Tell me about your experience!

Later this week: a conversation with Sci-Fi author Anthony Doyle.

S3E25: Balancing World Building Against Character & Plot with Author Michael Buchsbaum

Michael Buchsbaum is the author of the Sci-Fi novel “Break the Moon,” but he’s also in the process of writing Fantasy. Today we discuss how to present your world building without info dumping, how to push each character’s individual arc forward, all along with pushing the overall story’s plot forward.

Do you think our insights hit the mark?

You can find “Break the Moon” on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Break-Moon-Michael-Buchsbaum/dp/B0CSH57DFG

Miscellany:

-I’m still emptying my old house into our new shed. Insurance just approved a new roof, so that will be helpful when we put the house on the market.
-Work continues on Nightshade Unicorn book 2: “Guardian”. I’m still shooting for a release date of August 22, which is very close at this point. The cover artist is waiting for me to get back to her with info about the book that will guide the cover design.
-I’m slowly working toward an audiobook for “Forerunner.” I inquired for Michael Kramer/Kate Reading to read it and they responded that they felt as a YA novel, it would be better served by younger voices. They recommended another team, and I will consider them. I still could record it myself, but it would be great to take a huge item off my plate. Also, I’d have to develop my narration game first, which makes it an even heavier load if I do it myself.

S3E24: Pirates! With Author and Retired Marine Musician Robert Jacob

In 2012 I checked into the Marine Detachment, Naval School of Music, as Private First Class Bishop. I reported to the MarDet’s Commanding Officer, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jacob, who is now my guest on today’s show.

CWO5 Robert Jacob (Ret., USMC) has long been actively involved in living history portrayals, including the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, Mountain Man, Western Gunfighter, and Pirates. After retiring from the US Marine Corps in 2013 and while researching pirates, he realized that much of the historical record about them was contradictory and incorrect. He immediately set about remedying the situation himself. As of this podcast episode, he is on the brink of publishing his third Non-Fiction book about pirates.

You can find those books at www.robertjacobauthor.com.

I know you’ll enjoy this interview as much as I did.

Check in next week to hear from Author Michael Buchsbaum discuss how to approach world and character building.
