Welcome to the Grendhill Chronicles Podcast. I am your host, Don Bishop, and I write as T.S. Pedramon. It’s late for me, I’m tired, and I have to get up early, so you get no visual on today’s episode. In this episode I will read to you the third, and final free installment, of Nightshade Unicorn: Forerunner.
As promised two weeks ago, I will now tell you where you can listen to more chapters of the story, but unfortunately I can’t offer that for free because I am serializing in Kindle Vella and they have rules. Kindle Vella is a paid platform, and Amazon doesn’t want their users paying for content that can be found for free elsewhere. So, I am glad to make the story available, but you will have to subscribe.
Now, in order to continue listening to the story beyond today’s episode, you can go to my SubStack. That’s Grendhill.SubStack.com, or G-R-E…
If you want to jump straight to the serial content, which you can do, and I will post the first three chapters again over on Substack, and the first three chapters will still be free, that URL is https://grendhill.substack.com/p/welcome.
Now, as of December 7, 2023, there is only a brief welcome episode uploaded. Give me at least a day or two to start posting the story there, because I will not be using AI generated voices, so that means I have to re-record chapter 1–or rather, record it in the first place.
Thanks to the Descript software’s “studio sound” feature, I’ve decided it’s not too tedious to record myself reading to you, but it will still take me a little bit of time.
Before we jump into the story narration for today, I need to mention our “Fantasty” contest that concluded last Thursday. I’d like to thank those who sent in your submissions. They all looked very tasty. We haven’t had a chance to sit down and pick a winner yet, but I hope to do that in the next couple of days, and we can announce that next week and send the talented chef the $35 gift card we promised. So, that is still pending, we haven’t forgotten, but we don’t have any announcement for that today.
Also, please tune in next week, when you’ll be able to hear the first half of a stimulating conversation with author J. Clifton Slater, with the second half continuing in the following episode.
For now, please enjoy the story.
We had an issue with the upload for S2E17. If that was only 6 minutes long or if it began with 40 seconds of silence, listen to this episode instead. It is the same intended content. I reuploaded, but I think Apple and Spotify already pulled the messed up version. So, here is another episode, but the same, but different.

Today is the last day for our #fantasty contest! Tweet at me, Insta me, or email your pictures of tasty food grown or cooked at home, for a chance to win a $35 gift card to the restaurant or store of your choice. Thanksgiving dinner counts, so send me your photos! You are NOT limited to one contest entry.

Legends of the Nightshade Unicorn echo in the shadows, but Allabva pays them no heed. Unicorns, known as the Nomord, are peaceful, lighthearted, and all female, as all the world knows. Allabva knew that, too, until Hronomon the Forerunner, a male Nomord, singled her out, calling her on an urgent mission to aid the great Shrongelin and save the world. This story represents book 1 in the Nightshade Unicorn series.
The concept art included with today’s episode was generated with AI, a temporary measure. I am currently in the process of hiring an artist!

Story narration and worldbuilding were the intended treatment of this podcast when I started it in 2020. Discussions about worldbuilding and writing (and life behind the curtain) have dominated the podcast so far, but today I bring you an episode of story narration!
This is [currently] chapter 2 of Nightshade Unicorn: Forerunner. It will likely undergo many changes as I go through the editing process, up until the book release on February 28, 2024.
If you wish to read the entire book right now, it is available to Journeyman subscribers to my ReamStories page. I will also provide the rest of the book in audio format, on a platform yet to be determined. Check back on December 7; when I publish the third episode of this story, I will share where that will be. (I might determine it sooner. Like I said, check back.)
Enjoy the story! Also, give me feedback! Let me know what does or doesn’t work for you. Send it to author@thorn.link.
